Cutting Moving Costs
Published on Friday, 04 September 2009
Moving is undoubtedly one of the most rigorous and arduous events in one's life, and needless to say, it is also expensive. In these trying financial times, everyone would be better off cutting costs and looking to save more. The same applies, of course, to moving. The less you spend (without sacrificing quality of the service, etc, that you get, of course), the better.
One way of spending less is by buying second hand boxes. This saves the expense of buying new ones, as used boxes are cheaper. You're also being more environment friendly too. You can also consider renting plastic boxes which are sturdier and more durable.
Another way to save on costs is to discard all the unnecessary things. All of us have things we think we need but really don't, which explains the things in the work shed or the attic that only gathers dust throughout the years. The best way would be to hold a garage sale and funnel the proceeds into your savings or for added budget for your move.
Another way would be to do a DIY move. Especially if you don't have a lot of stuff, then renting, or better yet, borrowing a van that can hold your things will be much cheaper than hiring a moving company to do everything for you.
