Getting a Grip on Quotes
A moving quote refers to an estimated cost for your moving services, which is provided by the moving company.

There are different types of quotes though, so it is best to understand each so you'll be able to make a more informed decision.

The first is called a non-binding quote, which is the easiest to get. Usually, you simply describe to the company by phone or email the services you'll be needing from them and then they send you an estimate cost. It's as simple as that. However, you have to keep in mind that these types of quotes are not biding and are liable to change (usually increasing) when the actual move takes place and when you receive the final bill, as there will inevitably be some services and fees that were not taken into account during the initial quoting process.

The other type of quote is a binding quote, which is more accurate and always much more expensive than the non-binding ones at initial presentation. The good thing about binding quote though, is that it is more or less the amount you will be shelling out when you actually pay. Often times, the moving company sends an inspector to assess the volume of your things and other factors in your move before a quote is presented to you, making it more accurate. This way, you'll be able to budget accordingly and won't be surprised by any additional unforseen fees.
