There are lots of things to bear in mind when packing for a move. Firstly, you need to make sure that the weight of each box is not over 50 pounds. It is also important that you stuff the boxes with sufficient cushioning to provide extra support during the transit.In short, packing is no easy task. It involves systematic preparation and planning to ensure that nothing is left behind. The safety of your belongings lies on your packing techniques too.
10 Tips for an Efficient Move
1. Start at least four weeks prior the moving schedule. Begin with out-of-season items, then the stuff you use less frequently.
2. Empty the drawers. Remove the stuff that may spill or break such as bottles of perfumes and mirrors. Clothing and blankets may be left inside but be sure to seal the opening of the drawer with a packing tape to keep the lids from popping out while on transit.
3. Pack similar items together to minimize damage. Breakables should never be mixed with metal or hard items.
4. Wrap items separately with newspaper to avoid scratches.
5. Cushion the items with bubble wrap, moving blankets or crumpled newspaper.
6. Never overload the boxes but strive to have a compact box.
7. Seal each box with packing tape to keep the stuff from spilling out.
8. Label the box according to the room it belongs to. This not only makes it easier to monitor the items. It also helps in the unpacking process.
9. Put a sign on the door of each room at your new home so your movers can easily identify which boxes belong to what room.
10. Stick colorful stickers to the boxes you want to unpack first when you reach your destination.
