How to Prepare Your Dog for the Move
Published on Friday, 19 February 2010

When moving
houses, it is not only you who get stressed out but your dogs too. They will feel that something is up. And since they don't understand what's going on they would be acting up. And one thing that can make this worse is when you make your dog feel how stressed you are. When this happens you would certainly encounter problems during the move. To avoid this, you should prepare your dog for the upcoming move. House training is very important before the moving day.

It would be more difficult if you have a puppy because you would be teaching your puppy a new thing. An adult dog, on the other hand, would only need to be reoriented on crate training. And what makes it even difficult is puppies are generally more sensitive to the stress you are under. Showing your distress would only make the training period longer. Begin by putting your puppy inside the crate together with his toys and a blanket and position them in a quiet room. When the hour is up, let your puppy out to the garden so you can show him where he can pee or poo. Reward him for good behavior and soon he would be able to do what he's supposed to do by himself.

Now an adult dog who still misbehaves would need to be reminded on crate training. To avoid soiling the same thing actually needs to be done. But your dog would easily be able to revert to the training you've given him. By doing so, you would be able to avoid having problems with them during the move because they will be used to being enclosed and to control where they can poo or pee.
