How to Prepare Your Pet Dog for the Move

Published on Sunday, 11 April 2010
Most people treat their pet dogs as a part of the family. If you feel the same way, you should also look into the needs of your dog. If you want to be comfortable and happy in your new home, for instance, you should see to it that your pet also has a comfortable place there. Nevertheless, your immediate concern now is how to manage the stress your dog is feeling because of the move. As much as possible you should make him comfortable especially if you are going to have a long drive. That is why it is not advisable to feed your dog about 4 hours before leaving. Bring enough water for the entire trip though so your dog will not get dehydrated. Make regular stops too so the dog can do his personal necessities. But avoid traffic too as too many stops could make the dog nauseous as well. Check your new address too. Make sure that the dog won't be able to jump over the fence just in case it tries to runaway. Make sure that fences do not have holes too. And just in case the dog actually runs away make sure that you have a current photo of the dog before moving. To be safe, make it a point to look for the nearest vet or after-hours animal center so you know where to take your dog in cases of emergencies.
