How to Protect Your Things with Blankets during the Move

Published on Saturday, 21 August 2010
Professional movers have moving blankets to protect your furniture and other big and delicate items from bumps, scratches and other types of damage. However, if you are doing the move by yourself, you won't have the luxury to use such protection. One option you can do is to rent some moving blankets from the removals company. This will cost you a bit but at least your things are better protected. On the other hand, if you don't want to spend more on the rental you can improvise and use what you have at home. Take note though that you should use the thickest blankets so as to provide the best protection. But then, you should not use very expensive linen either as they could get ripped or stained during the moving process too. If this happens, you may have protected your furniture but you also lose a lot because you lost an expensive bedspread. It would have been cheaper if you had rented some moving blankets instead. Do not use thin blankets either as they would not be able to provide the necessary cushion and protection to your things. So in the end, you should balance the cost and the protection you provide from your things. If you think you can get away with using old blankets, then you should do that. But if you don't have them at home, you would be better off renting some instead.
