Going to college is very exciting. For one, a part and parcel of going to college is living away from home. Take note though that aside from the basic necessities, you also have other needs to fulfill. For instance, you need a relatively quiet place so you can concentrate when you need to study for exams. Because of this it would be advisable to visit the apartment a few times. But do this at different times of the day.
Be Safe
Since you will be living in a new neighborhood, you should be cautious. It would best that you check the locks of the apartment. You should feel secure inside the apartment always. Your belongings should also be safe even when you are not around.
The electric wiring should also be sound. If you need to use a lot of electric gadgets and appliances, you should check out if there is enough electric outlets available for every single one of them. You would not want to overload an outlet and risk fire.
Comfort and Amenities
Most apartments are rented furnished but before you rent one you have to check whether the freezer and stove are working fine. It would be very inconvenient if you find out that the stove does not work when you are about to cook. And besides you are also paying for these appliances.
You better check the plumbing too. Leaking sinks and water drainage can be messy and unsanitary. At the very least, make sure that you have hot and cold water when you need it too.
Of course, check if you have laundry areas within the apartment or in the building. If there is none, at least make sure there is one nearby. Transportation should be accessible as well.
