The College Move What sets a college move apart from the rest is the first time' experience for your college kids. It is both a sad, happy and exciting moment in their lives. There is also an issue about budget, as they do not have a job to support a full-blown professional move. However, college kids don't bring much as well, so that will prove to a bit of a relief for the parents. But since first times are always fraught with problems, one of the things you can do is to assist your kids as they plan for their move. You don't take over, but ask if they need any help and what you can do for them. You can offer to drive them to their dorm or boarding house, but it's important to let your kids handle the move in their own way, and only provide advice and guidance as needed. The most important thing in a college move is to not spoon-feed your kids. Always take a step back and let them experience handling things on their own. College is their gateway into the adult world, and letting them take the reins signifies your support for them and your trust and acknowledgement of their abilities as future adults.
