Help Your Children Cope In Your Move
One of the common mistakes of several families that move into a new place is the failure of parents to notice the needs of their children to cope up in this episode. If you are also planning to make a move, try not to commit the same mistake for your children too.
Apparently, the needs for children can be easily ignored by older family members, parents particularly, because of so many things that need to be attended. But the omission to address the needs of children is not healthy for them. Of course, moving is not an easy thing for them. They will be required to make a lot of adjustments such as coping to new home and school environment. Hence, moving for them also means leaving their special friends behind.
The first thing that you should do is to assist your children to prepare for the move. Tell your children about your plan to move as you make out that you have to transfer into a new place. This way, they will have an ample time to prepare themselves. At first, they will be disappointed and even feel angry in your decision. But don't mind such reactions a lot, they are only usual.
You may assist them to have an address book where they can gather the contacts of their friends. You can also help them to set-up their own email account or any social networking site such as online blogging or Facebook. Keep in mind that their awareness about the chances of their constant communication with their friends will significantly contribute to the success of your move.
During your preparation in moving into a new house, you should not still neglect to provide the necessary attention to your children. Maintain a regular routine, have your meal on time and allow your kids to take their regular nap after noon time.
When packing your things, you can let your children spend their time with their friends or your relatives so they will not experience all the mess. But if your kids want to help you with your packing; then, just allow them to do what they can do. You can let them pack their own things such as their toys. You can also let them decorate the boxes that contain their things. This way, they will be able to adjust easily to your soon transfer.
More importantly, you should help your children bade good-bye to the important people in their lives. It will be a wonderful idea if you will have a little farewell party for them.
