Make Moving With Your Roommates Fun: Follow These 10 Tips
You have just found a new home, and the good news is you are moving with your roommates. You seem to be too engrossed about the situation and then after some time you slowly realize that you are in fact moving into a new place and this means so many things: packing, unpacking, organizing, and so many things. And now you just want to get started.
And if you want to get a good start, you can begin your tough task by coming up with a comprehensive checklist. Creating a checklist should become a standard rule, a sort of protocol whenever somebody or a family decides to move. This checklist is essential to get you guided all the way to your new home. And after making your checklist, it has just become the most priceless thing you have.
Moving with your roommates is another story though. That is why you have to get familiar with the so called 10 moving tips you have to follow especially if you are moving with your roommates. Here they are:
1. Decide when will be your moving day. And then make it official by scheduling it afterwards. However, you should inform your roommates about the moving day you set and ask for their approval. Everything should be coordinated with each other so that you can work as one person.
2. Don't go on you own (we mean, with your roommates). You also have to tell your friends and other people who may be concern about your move. After which, you give them your new contact and mailing details and let them know when you will officially move. Get everybody become part of the loop, especially your family.
3. Go to the post office and ask them to redirect your mail. Some important mails maybe on their way, and they have to reach you in your new address as well. Bring some IDs when you do such transaction so you wouldn't experience problems.
4. Don't forget to update your contact details in case you are expecting mails, bills, phone calls, and other important transactions.
5. Settle your bills (e.g. electricity, water, utility, etc) the soonest time and then ask your old providers to remove your name from their lists to prevent unnecessary bills under your name.
6. Take care of your bonds and leases if you are previously renting a place. If you are required to pay bonds due to your moving then it would be better to negotiate with your landlord to avoid future problems.
7. Discuss with your roommates how you will settle your monthly rental fees and other expenses. This way you will know how everybody should budget their allowances or salaries.
8. Maintain your journal that contains details regarding your new house such as the house rules, contract lease, bills and receipts and other equally important information.
9. Have a sort of photo shoot of your old and new house for future reference. This way, you will know the condition of the house when you left it and the condition of your new home when you moved in.
10. Stay with your new home and experience the fun of living in a new place with your roommates. It is also better to walk around together with your roommates in visiting your neighborhood to get you acquainted with the new environment.
